Own Art

From Hope Gallery to your home, with 0% finance

Own Art is a national initiative that makes buying contemporary art and craft affordable by providing interest-free credit for the purchase of original work.

The Own Art scheme is available through their network of member galleries for the purchase of contemporary art and craft of any kind and in any media.

That means you can choose more or less anything you want from paintings, prints, drawings, and sculpture to glassware, ceramics, jewellery, furniture, and textiles. Whatever you decide to buy, it must be made by a living artist as the scheme aims to support the artists of today by encouraging sales of their work to new buyers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Own Art is a Creative United programme run in partnership with Arts Council England, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Creative Scotland. Creative United is a registered trademark of Creative Sector Services CIC, a Community Interest Company, in partnership with our credit provider Novuna Consumer Finance.

Own Art is available to all permanent UK residents over the age of 18, subject to status.

This means that you must be able to meet one of the following criteria in order to apply for a loan:

  • Working at least 16 hours a week(employed or self-employed)
  • A retired person in receipt of a pension
  • A person in receipt of disability allowance

If you do not meet one of these criteria but are married to or living with a partner who does, then you may still apply provided that your partner is happy for their income details to be included on your application form.

Works of contemporary art and craft of many different kinds fall under the scheme, including sculpture, painting, photography, textiles, limited edition prints, fashion, jewellery, glass, furniture, ceramics and multimedia works – provided they’re created by a living artist. In some galleries, you can use Own Art on works of art by artists born in the 20th or 21st century. Ask your gallery for more details.

The minimum loan amount is £100. This can either be for the purchase of a single item, or for a group of items where the combined value is £100 or more.

An application for credit may be turned down by Novuna for a number of reasons. If this happens you will receive an email explaining their decision.

No deposit is necessary when applying for Own Art, although you can pay a deposit if you wish.

Your first payment will normally be debited from your account around 4 weeks after the date on which you signed the agreement.  You will receive an email confirming the date.

Simply add your chosen artwork to your basket and continue to checkout. You’ll be guided through the process there.
