Jenny Fermor

Jenny Fermor is a British artist based in Madrid, Spain.

Jenny’s landscape paintings reflect her fascination with light and atmosphere, inspired by any puddle, ray or gleam of light that catches her eye. This might be in the hills and pine forests of the sierras of central Spain that she frequents, or in the streets of her hometown Madrid.

“The story behind this series of summer landscapes is a summer spent walking and cycling in the Madrid sierra during the pandemic. I am fascinated by the soft light of the pine forests, the soft orange tones of the forest floor and tree trunks, against the deep blue sky. I am always looking for a light contrast and a pathway or line to draw the viewer into my paintings. I spend a lot of time taking photos which help me to form compositions.”

Her work explores design and contrast, using loose, expressive marks and flashes of saturated colour to create drama and composition.

Jenny studied a Fine Art degree in the UK before moving to Spain, where she rekindled her love of printmaking and painting and became a full-time artist.
